The Iftar Cannon in the Emirate of Ajman; a historical legacy and a Ramadan symbol that has lasted for over seventy years

The Iftar Cannon in the Emirate of Ajman; a historical legacy and a Ramadan symbol that has lasted for over seventy years

The Cannon is the advertiser of the most beautiful moment that the fasting people wait for every day in Ramadan. Concerning the talk about the old Iftar cannon belonging to Ajman Police, it is a historical legacy that the British government gave to the late Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi in the 1950s, to be a historical symbol and a maker of happiness in Muslim holidays since that time, it was made in Britain in 1943 AD.

With great happiness and pride in this historical legacy, H. E. Lt. Col. Hussein Muhammad Abdullah Al-Wars, Head of the Workshops and Transports Department at the Support Services Department at Ajman Police, tells us the story of this Cannon since it was received from the British government in the middle of the last century. It was launched after the establishment of Ajman Police in 1967 AD by Captain Salem Tarish, may Allah have mercy on him, as it was limited to holidays at that time. In 1977 AD, Lt. Col. Hussein Al-Wars was appointed as his assistant at the rank of corporal.
H. E. continued that in the year 1982 AD, Captain Salem Tarish was referred to retirement, and shortly thereafter he died, may Allah have mercy on him, so I was appointed supervisor of the Cannon with the assistance of policeman Jalal and then retired and after that the policeman Farid Ali was appointed. The Cannon was fired in the Eid prayer place next to Ajman Museum on holidays and Iftar time during Ramadan. In 2014 AD, due to the acceleration of the urban movement and the large number of towers and buildings in the area and the high sound of the Cannon, the Cannon was moved to AL-Zahir Palace courtyard in Al Rashidiya.

Then H. H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler of Ajman, ordered the purchase of two modern cannons, one of which was installed in the courtyard of Al-Zahir Palace and the other traveling between the mosques of the Emirate to spread joy and happiness among the public at the time of announcing the Iftar moment in the days of Ramadan. Their firing is supervised by Captain Mansour Muhammad Saleh, Sergeant Major Saqr Hamad Al-Sufi from the Support Services Department under the supervision of his Excellency, while the British Cannon was approved to be exclusive for Eid days only.
H. E. Lt. Col. Hussein Abdullah Al-Wars has paid special attention to the British Cannon, as it undergoes special periodic maintenance to preserve it as a historical legacy whose joy extends over the generations. The Cannon remains a symbol of joy as children, young and old people wait for it to mark the moment of Iftar, in a scene that is repeated daily in the blessed month of Ramadan.
