Ajman Police enhances road safety by launching the Don't be distracted by anything other than the road initiative
As part of its continuous efforts to enhance road safety, the Traffic and Patrols Department
at the General Command of Ajman Police launched the traffic awareness campaign "Don't
be distracted by anything other than the road", during the period from December 10 to 31.
Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Humaid Bin Hindi, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols
Department, said that the launch of the campaign came to educate drivers, road users and
members of society about the dangers of the phenomenon of being distracted by anything
other than the road while driving, and to explain the negative effects such as using mobile
phones and social media applications, which lead to distraction of the driver's mind, and
his inability to respond appropriately in sudden situations that result in accidents.
The Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department added that the "Don't be
distracted by anything other than the road" campaign includes spreading the culture of
adhering to traffic regulations and laws and avoiding dangerous behaviors and practices
while driving on the road, stressing that the phenomenon of being distracted by anything
other than the road while driving poses a great danger to vehicle drivers and road users,
and is one of the behaviors that leads to the vehicle deviating between the lanes of the
road and slowing down the vehicle's speed, which disrupts traffic and commits many
violations that lead to accidents. He pointed out that the violation of being distracted from
the road by using a mobile phone by hand while driving or in any way carries a fine of
(800) dirhams and (4) traffic points, according to Article 32 of the UAE Federal Traffic
Law. Lieutenant Colonel Rashid Humaid Bin Hindi stated that the campaign includes many
activities, including holding awareness lectures for government employees, university
students and the general public, in addition to distributing awareness leaflets, and providing
preventive advice and guidance through various means to raise awareness about the
dangers of this phenomenon, calling on the public to adhere to traffic laws, drive carefully
and not be distracted from the road in any way, wishing safety for all.
