“Beginning of Hope” Initiative Enhances Quality of Life of Inmates at Ajman Correctional and Penal Institution
As part of its continuous efforts to enhance the quality of life of inmates, and within the
framework of achieving the objectives of the “Beginning of Hope” initiative implemented by
the Punitive and Correctional Institution of the General Command of Ajman Police to help
convicts after the expiry of their sentences to practice any commercial or professional activity,
the institution implemented development initiatives to provide them with skills and crafts that
qualify them to integrate into society and assume their responsibilities towards their families
and relatives.
Colonel Mohammed Mubarak Al Ghafli, Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institution in
Ajman, said that the institution is making every possible effort to enhance the quality of life of
inmates, and through the “Beginning of Hope” initiative, the institution has been able to
rehabilitate them to be more righteous and capable of production upon the end of their
sentences, by developing workshops and providing them with the equipment and materials
necessary to achieve their goals.
For his part, Major Hamdan Saeed Sheikhan Al Kalbani, Head of the Reform and
Rehabilitation Department, said that the institution worked to develop the sewing workshop by
increasing the number of sewing machines to 23 machines, including modern and advanced
machines for weaving and spinning, as well as ironing and packaging equipment. After this
development, the inmates were able to raise the workshop’s production capacity to more than
2,500 pieces during the year 2024, which is enough to meet all the needs of the institution’s
inmates for clothing for men and women.
The Head of the Reform and Rehabilitation Department added that the institution worked on
developing the carpentry workshop by expanding its area and adding a special section equipped
with painting equipment, in addition to developing the studio and providing it with all the
equipment necessary for the workshops to operate.
